Molecular Regulation of Renal Physiology and Pathophysiology by Naphthoquinones.



Prosjektbeskrivelse:
There is little information on the regulatory role of naphthoquinone (vitamin K) compounds in the physiology and pathophysiology of renal systems. There are indications of naphthoquinones being able to directly modulate the cell biology of cells from many different tissues. These findings suggest that naphthoquinones can influence cell biology at a fundamental level. However, data from renal cells are missing. We aim to interrogate human proximal tubule epithelial cells and human mesangial cells for basal molecular responses to physiological challenges in the absence presence of naphthoquinone compounds. We aim to define the pathophysiological changes of these cell lines in the presence of superimposed lipopolysaccharide challenge and the influence of naphthoquinones on these molecular responses, develop culture media, cell lysate, urine and plasma assays for vitamin K
