LADA-latent autoimmun diabetes in adults och risken för hjärtinfarkt. Resultat från 11 års uppföljning i HUNT

Vitenskapelig tittel:

LADA -Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults and the risk of myocardial infarction, Results of 11 year follow-up of the HUNT study.

LADA may be the second most common form of diabetes. Still the long term consequences of this diabetes form are largely unexplored. Preliminary data from the HUNT study show that patients with LADA have a more favorable metabolic risk profile than subjects with type 2 diabetes. In spite of this, mortality in LADA was as high as in type 2 diabetes, including a more than twofold increased risk of death from IHD. The excess risk may be related to poor glycemic control. To provide new insight into the development of cardiovascular disease in LADA, there is a need for further studies, using detailed data on cardiovascular outcomes. Our aim is to investigate the risk of acute myocardial infarction while taking into account the influence of metabolic risk factors, glycemic control and lifestyle factors. The project will used data from the HUNT-survey together with data from the National Cause of death registry and data on CVD from the two hospitals of Nord-Trøndelag County.
