Vitenskapelig tittel:
Oral habits in a group of consequtively treated orthodontic patients

The current literature indicates that there is a relationship between oral habits and dentofacial morphology. However, most studies have been performed on untreated population samples and have been cross-sectional. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for orthodontists to know the prevalence and effects of oral habits amongst their patients, as they may not only contribute to the development of malocclusions, but also compromise orthodontic treatment objectives. There is a strong need for more longitudinal studies using adequate diagnostic methods. Hence, the aims of this study are to determine the prevalence of oral habits in a group of consecutive orthodontic patients before and after orthodontic treatment and to evaluate their possible correlation. Furthermore, to evaluate the dental and skeletal morphology in patients with and without oral habits and to assess the possible effect of oral habits on the total treatment time and/ or the number of visits.
