Forskningsprosjekt

Teleslag i Nordlandssykehuset: Studie av en telemedisinsk tjeneste

Vitenskapelig tittel:
Telestroke in Nordland Hospital: Improved treatment of stroke patients in small hospitals

Prosjektbeskrivelse:
The aim of this project is to study the impact of the telestroke service in Nordlandssykehuset: how it may influence the outcome for stroke patients and the organisational and technological requirements for the service. There is substantial evidence of the medical impacts of telestroke. In this project we will explore whether the same benefits are possible to obtain in Helse Nord: that correct diagnosis is reached faster and the rate of thrombolytic therapy is increased. A telestroke service in North Norway is expected to face other challenges than those reported internationally: low number of cases, high turnover, and difficult patient transfer. The project will use a multi-method approach studying the patient flow by time-series analysis, hospital and log, field observations and interviews. The analysis of the data will use a quantitative and qualitative approach. The two year project will result in four scientific papers and a proposed model for a telestroke service in Helse Nor
